3. Kidneys
Location: located in the back part of the abdomen, on wither side of the spine and approximately between the twelfth thoracic and third lumbar vertebrae
Shape: two, bean-shaped organs
Color: dark red, garnet
Size: 10 cm x 5 cm x 3 cm, weight 120 gm (0.2646 lbs)
Anatomy: Cortex - renal corpuscle and urinary tubule

Kidney function:
Formation of urine: filtration, reabsorption, and secretion
Nephron: functional unit of the kidney, responsible for the actual purification and filtration of the blood
Urinary tract: urinary tubule - collecting duct - calyx - renal pelvis - urinary bladder - urethra
Ureter: 25 - 28 cm in length, the ducts that carry urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder
4. Urinary bladder:
Location: at the end of both ureters, down in the abdomen, right behind the pubic bone
Volume/capacity: 500 ml
Function: stores urine until its ready to be released
Formation of urine: blood - glomerulus - glomerular capsule - collecting duct - urethra
Urination: 200-250 ml of fluid is collected in the bladder - message sent to brain - bladder wall contracts - urination occurs
